As I write this, it’s early summer, and my two greyhounds are shedding. Fortunately, I’ve been trying out the GTech AirRAM 2 K9 and its Multi K9 Cordless Handheld Pet Vacuum companion (which I’ll review separately), and my carpets are now as dry as they should be during shedding season.
The AirRAM 2 K9 is an improved version of the GTech AirRAM 2 (surprising, I know). According to GTech, the K9 version has aluminum reinforcements in key areas to help it handle the extra pressure of sucking up thick hair.
I was eager to see if this vacuum would help me clean my two dogs’ hair. But I also wanted to see if it could help me clean the hair of another animal in my home—one that sheds more than the dogs—my partner, who has long, thick, ginger hair that sheds constantly. The key question is: Is the AirRAM 2 K9 good for general vacuuming?
In short, the AirRAM 2 K9 does a pretty good job of sucking up pet hair. It’s powerful enough to pick up hair from thick pile carpets, maneuverable, and generally pretty easy to use.
While it’s powerful enough to pick up pet hair, I missed our more powerful vacuum cleaners for the deeper cleans they offer.
The GTech AirRAM 2 K9 has an official MSRP of $249, although at the time of writing this several-year-old model was on sale for just $164.
While products are generally cheaper in the UK than in the US, the AirRAM 2 K9 is significantly more expensive at £279, or about $370 at the time of writing – a crazy and unjustified price difference. A skeptic might think the brand is leveraging its long-standing reputation in its home market to jack up prices.
In the US and UK, the AirRAM 2 K9 can be bundled with the GTech Multi K9 Cordless Handheld Pet Vacuum for $340/£407.
The handheld vacuum cleaner cost $142/£199 at the time or time of writing, so it makes more sense to buy both separately in the US (although prices may fluctuate).
