Having an outdoor space, especially in NYC, is an absolute blessing. My boyfriend and I moved in the fall of 2020, and since his previous apartment had almost no outdoor space, we felt a backyard was essential for our mental health.
Plus, we knew we wanted to rescue a puppy (which we did a few months later) and give him a place to run around.
We were lucky enough to find an apartment with a ~1,000 square foot walled patio that we didn’t have to share with anyone, and we were thrilled (and still are!).
Since then, we’ve been adding decorations and furniture to our backyard to make it feel like our own home. This year I especially wanted to give it a fresh look after winter since we often host guests in the summer.
To help you get started with your own outdoor space, I’m sharing some of the items I’m eyeing—from big (new deck boxes for storage) to small (outdoor throw pillows), as well as my favorite pressure washer for cleaning decks and carpets, and a highly recommended plant that basically takes care of itself.
