Despite stiff competition from Shark and Black+Decker, this straight steam mop is still the best I’ve tested. Just snap the handle, steam head, and mop head together and they’re all one piece, making them very secure.
Unscrewing the cap is easy, and just fill the integrated water tank with the provided kettle. A dial on top switches between minimum, medium, and maximum steam settings. Plus, the wedge-shaped mop head attaches via a ball joint, making it easy to move around in places like the kitchen, utility room, and bathroom.
It heats up in just 17 seconds, produces very powerful steam in about another 30 seconds, and once it heats up, it produces plenty of hot steam, enough to remove dirt from tile or vinyl.
As a result, the Vileda removed our dried mud and ketchup stains with little effort. The variable steam settings provide plenty of steam when you need it and none when you don’t, and I also liked the clear instructions.
It also does a great job cleaning stains and stained carpets, thanks to the removable plastic slider.
Sadly… this is a power-hungry steam mop, using around 1,585 watts when heated. The mop head is also a bit wide, which makes it difficult to use in some tight spaces, but trying it at a different angle often helps – I recommend holding the mop handle close to the floor.
