Ecovacs Deebot X5 Pro Omni Shines, but App Falls Short

by BERG

Not all robot vacuums live up to the promise of effortless cleaning—but the Ecovacs Deebot X5 Pro Omni comes pretty close.

The X5 Pro Omni is a high-end all-in-one vacuum, mop, and even self-clean machine designed to keep your home clean without help. Unlike standalone vacuums that require frequent maintenance, the X5 Pro Omni’s base station handles almost everything—from emptying the trash can to scrubbing and drying the mop pad. Of course, you’ll need to refill the water and clean the dirty water tank as needed.

For this review, I tested the X5 Pro Omni over a six-month period in a three-bedroom house, and it generally performed very well despite dealing with two messy adult dogs and an even messier Great Dane.

The X5 Pro Omni was quick and easy to set up, and its mapping was fast and fairly accurate, though I had to make some minor adjustments to the room divisions after the first scan. This robot vacuum cleaner navigates well around larger objects, but sometimes picks up cables, shoelaces, or other small items that the sensors miss, which means it’s best used in relatively open spaces.

Performance was excellent on all types of surfaces, including hard floors, carpets, and mats. High suction mode is best for removing dirt from carpets or removing heavier debris, while Standard mode is suitable for daily cleaning of hard floors. Battery life is impressive, and the robot can easily complete a full clean without returning to the base to recharge.

The X5 Pro Omni base station is one of its biggest strengths, and unlike competitors such as the Dreame X40 Ultra, it can reliably and thoroughly clean the robot’s dustbin, even pet hair and heavier debris.

The mop cleaning system is equally efficient, using 70°C hot water to wash to keep the mop pad fresh, and then hot air drying to prevent odors. I also found the 4-liter fresh water and dirty water tanks to be large enough that they only need to be emptied and refilled once a month.

The Ecovacs app offers a fair depth of customization and tracks details like where the robot has traveled, the size of the area cleaned, and the total number of sessions, but it doesn’t log detected obstacles like the Roborock app does.

Unfortunately, the app can be clunky to use at times, such as having to navigate to advanced robot settings to set up scheduled cleanings or trigger a different cleaning mode than the one selected.

The app prompts you to take care of any long-term maintenance issues, replacement parts are easy to find, and the lifespan of consumables is reasonable. The dust bag generally lasted about 60 days in my use (in my case, it was filled with dog hair most of the time), and the robot vacuum’s filter also needed cleaning.

The main brush, side brush, and mop pad showed expected wear and tear, and after six months of constant use, they were still very long lasting. The cost of replacement parts is comparable to other high-end robot vacuums, but I found that prices vary widely across markets.

While not perfect, the X5 Pro Omni is an excellent choice for those who want a robot vacuum that can manage itself, with excellent vacuuming and mopping performance, low maintenance, and a powerful auto-emptying base station.

However, if your home has a lot of cables or small clutter, or if you want a robot vacuum with smarter object detection or a better app, you may want to look elsewhere.
