Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner Review: Powerful Dirt Removal

by BERG

Steam cleaners remove dirt and disinfect using only water. Some models can be used as either a mop or a handheld device, while others can do both. I recently tested nine of the best handheld steam cleaners, and the Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner outperformed them all.

Portable and easy to use, the Dupray Steam Cleaner uses superheated steam that reaches up to 275 degrees Fahrenheit. It comes with 17 accessories for cleaning all over your home, including appliances, floors, showers, crevices, and more.

To test it, I carefully cleaned several areas of my home, including assembling a furniture test board; cleaning carpet scraps and stains from jeans; and tackling some hard-to-reach areas, such as crevices, the inside of an oven, and dried-on food residue on the floor. The steamer’s powerful output made cleaning quick and efficient, especially on hard surfaces.

What is the Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner?

The Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner is a multi-purpose steam machine that can clean dirt, disinfect, degrease, and deodorize. Its superheated steam reaches temperatures of up to 275 degrees Fahrenheit, enough to quickly remove stuck-on material and kill 99.9% of bacteria and viruses.

The Dupray steam cleaner comes with 17 accessories, including two extension tubes, a floor tool, three mop pads, a microfiber cloth and valve cover, a steam lance, a triangle tool, a window tool, a brass brush, and five nylon brushes.

The device has a modern square design with a handle on the top and wheels on the bottom. At 9 pounds, it’s not as lightweight as other handheld models, but its retractable handle makes it easy to carry, and the 6.5-foot extension hose and wheels on the bottom make it easy to maneuver. The Dupray comes with a 54-ounce water tank that provides up to 50 minutes of cleaning time without refilling.

According to Dupray, this vacuum can clean floors, grout, kitchen appliances, car interiors, sinks, toilets, and showers. It can also remove odors and some stains from furniture, kill dust mites and bed bugs on mattresses, and make fabrics look brand new.

Is the Dupray Steam Cleaner Easy to Clean?

The Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner is easy to use. I had no problems changing attachments, and unlike some other models I tested, none of the attachments leaked at the joints. The extension tube made it easy for me to mop the floor and reach high places, which helped me clean crown molding and remove wrinkles from draperies.

I didn’t use the extension tube to clean grout, sinks, or other easy-to-reach areas. Instead, I attached the attachments to the 6.5-foot flexible hose, which gave me plenty of room to maneuver.

One of my favorite features, which really makes a difference when tackling large jobs, is the ability to lock the steam trigger. When testing a handheld steamer model with a trigger, I barely made it through a foot of grout before my hands got tired. I appreciate that the Dupray steam cleaner is designed so that I can use the trigger for small jobs and continuous steam for larger jobs.

One downside to the Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner is that it sometimes sprays water when it’s first turned on. I didn’t think of this when I was testing upholstery and clothing, which resulted in over-saturating fabrics. To avoid this, I now use the trigger to spray steam a few times before I start cleaning to make sure it doesn’t spray water on fabrics.

Is the Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner Worth Buying?

At about $150, the Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner is a great value. It’s a mop, furniture steamer, and hard surface cleaner all in one. And because it produces hotter steam than most home steamers, it cleans more efficiently than many other models.

Over the past few months, I’ve tested 24 related products, including steam mops, upholstery steamers, and the best handheld steam cleaners. When it comes to versatility and power, the Dupray steam cleaner can’t be beat.

In terms of long-term costs, replacing regular household cleaners with a steam cleaner really saves money. The Dupray uses only water and comes with three microfiber mop pads, a microfiber rag, and a microfiber cover, all of which are machine washable and reusable. Additional mop pads can be purchased in packs of five for about $30.

Because the Dupray has both cleaning and disinfecting capabilities, there’s no need to buy disinfectants, degreasers, mopping fluids, and tub and tile cleaners. However, if you have hard water, it’s recommended that you buy and use distilled water to prevent mineral buildup in the machine.
