If convenience is your top priority when it comes to cleaning, then the Shark Cordless Upright Vacuum Cleaner – with Auto Empty System is worth a look. That’s right, this is a cordless upright vacuum cleaner that empties itself, so there’s no need to worry about making a mess when you try to empty the dust canister into the dustbin.
It also means you don’t have to empty it after every cleaning session, as it will automatically empty itself ready for the next one. This technology does sound expensive, and it is – but Very has a massive £150 discount, so this Shark vacuum cleaner is now £199, saving you £150.
It’s still a lot of money for a vacuum cleaner, but it’s cheaper than any Dyson model – and there’s no such auto emptying technology on any of Dyson’s vacuum cleaners.
The Shark Cordless Upright Vacuum Cleaner (with Auto Empty System) regularly costs £349.99, but thanks to the Spring Sale it’s down to its lowest price yet at just £199. If you don’t want to buy from Very, you can also buy it direct from Shark for the same £150 discount.
This Shark vacuum has the portability of a cordless upright vacuum with a battery life of up to 40 minutes. Because it sits on a dock, you can charge the vacuum while it’s emptying, ready for your next cleaning session.
It comes with all the tools you need, with a motorised head that’s perfect for removing pet hair from carpets and anti-tangle technology to prevent hair from getting tangled. It’s lightweight at just 2.7kg and has a detachable wand, so you can shorten it for cleaning stairs or inside a car, for example.
And then there’s the automatic emptying system. Once the vacuum is plugged into the dock, the clever dock sucks the waste out and stores it in the dock. There’s a larger bin on the dock, which Shark says can hold up to a month’s worth of dust. The bin is sealed, so all the dust stays inside.
Then, when the dock is full, you simply empty the dock. This means that instead of constantly emptying the vacuum, you only need to empty the base occasionally, saving you the hassle of running to the dustbin and the potential hassle of dropping the vacuum on the floor.
For some users, cordless vacuums can be hit or miss, as some cleaning enthusiasts still prefer corded models because they have “stronger suction”. One customer pointed out a downside to the Shark vacuum, saying: “The suction is not as good as my last Shark vacuum.
However, it is light and comes with two extra tools. Overall, I am happy with the weight of this vacuum, just not the suction.”
This kind of auto-emptying technology is not common on vacuums of this type, but it has been available on robot vacuums for a while. You can find auto-emptying technology on robot vacuums like the iRobot Roomba j7+, which is currently on sale for £649.99, down from £999 – so it is usually an expensive piece of technology.
Dyson’s powerful 360 Vis Nav robot vacuum cleaner doesn’t offer this technology, which is a bit surprising considering its £999 price tag.
