Consumer Mr. Li reported to the Political and Legal Channel that during last year’s “Double 12”, he spent more than 3,000 yuan to buy a Yunjing J5 sweeping robot (17.110, 0.45, 2.70%) at Vipshop’s self-operated Yunjing official flagship store. The product promotion page has 8 core functions, including the “intelligent cliff detection to prevent falling” function.
However, after using it for a while, he found that this sweeping robot always fell into the toilet bowl. At the end of March this year, the promotional content about “intelligent cliff detection to prevent falling” on the promotional page of the product in Vipshop Yunjing store also disappeared. Mr. Li was very angry about this and thought he was fooled by the merchant.
“I bought a Yunjing J5 sweeping robot at Vipshop Yunjing special sale store during the ‘Double 12’ period. During the purchase process, they had 8 major functions on the promotional page, one of which was to get out of trouble. He said that the robot can get out of trouble intelligently without human participation, and can detect cliffs intelligently to prevent falling. When I saw it, I made up my mind to buy it.” Mr. Li said.
The reporter saw from the promotional materials of Vipshop’s self-operated Yunjing official flagship store provided by Mr. Li that this Yunjing J5 sweeping robot has eight functions of the Whale Instinct System, among which “getting out of trouble” is described as “robot intelligently getting out of trouble without human participation” and “falling” is described as “intelligent cliff detection to prevent falling”.
“During my use, I frequently encountered some obstacles, which caused the tray to fall off and often fell into the stool pit. When I communicated with Vipshop’s customer service, I found that they had deleted these two functions.” Mr. Li told reporters.
Mr. Li said that after buying the product on “Double 12” in 2024, he did not use it immediately, but around February this year. At the end of March, he gradually found that this sweeping robot was not satisfactory. He then found Vipshop customer service to report it, but found in the product’s promotional materials that the eight functions of the Whale Spirit Perception System of the Wing J5 sweeping robot in the water and water version were missing two of them, “Robot intelligent escape without human participation” and “Intelligent cliff detection to prevent falling”, which is consistent with what the reporter saw when he logged into the relevant page of Vipshop on April 28.
“It should be that they found the defects of the product, avoided accountability, made false propaganda, and deleted it later. At that time, the official staff of Wing also said that it could not identify cliffs, and it was necessary to set up restricted areas, and it could not escape intelligently, and human participation was required. Therefore, the responses of the official after-sales staff to these two visits were obviously inconsistent with their propaganda. My current request is that the robot I bought can achieve these two functions, or I can return it.” Mr. Li said.
In this regard, the reporter contacted Vipshop customer service to understand the situation. “In this case, we have relevant department staff here to verify it. Vipshop attaches great importance to it and has recorded your problem here.” Vipshop customer service said.
The customer service did not give a clear answer as to why the promotional materials had deleted content. The reporter then logged into the Yunjing Intelligent official website and found that there was no Yunjing J5 product in the Yunjing product introduction column, but Yunjing online stores on many e-commerce platforms still had J5 products for sale, among which the Yunjing J5 sweeping robot water-supply version still had the eight functions of the Jingling perception system.
In response to this matter, Wang Lu, a lawyer at Hunan Xiangding Law Firm, said: According to Article 23 and Article 55 of my country’s “Consumer Rights Protection Law”, the goods or services provided by the operator should be consistent with the content of the advertisement. If there is false propaganda or fraud, consumers have the right to request a return and claim three times compensation.
The merchant shirked responsibility on the grounds that “the product is subject to the actual product”. If the content of its promotion has a significant impact on the consumer’s purchase decision (such as the lack of core functions), it is misleading. It is recommended that you: retain evidence such as the actual product, order records, and screenshots of the promotional page; complain to the e-commerce platform and request mediation; if the platform mediation is fruitless, you can complain to the local market supervision department or consumer association; if necessary, you can file a lawsuit to claim return and compensation.
Before the release, Vipshop responded to the reporter in text form, saying that the platform is the official authorized channel of Yunjing brand, and the products are directly shipped by the authorized supplier of the brand. The products are the same across the network, without any distinction between AB models, and the functions are consistent, and there is no false advertising. In addition, regarding the modification of the function promotion on the product details page, it has been verified that it was modified by the authorized supplier of the brand, and the product function did not change. Because it is the genuine authorization of the brand, the delivery and page operation are completed by the brand. The platform has urged the brand to contact the reporter as soon as possible.
Subsequently, Yunjing Smart officially responded to the reporter, confirming that all the products sold by Vipshop have been authorized by the brand, and the order is shipped directly to consumers by the brand. Regarding the modification of the function promotion on the product details page, it has been verified that some users have previously received feedback that there are doubts about the anti-fall and smart escape functions. Yunjing Smart has issued the brand’s internal experimental test report to Vipshop. However, considering that some users may still have doubts, Yunjing Smart has updated the page according to Vipshop’s requirements, but the product function has not changed substantially.
