A 47-year-old Chicago man suffered multiple burns Thursday afternoon when a gas tank exploded while he was installing pressure-washing equipment at Muir High School, according to police and city spokespeople.
Pasadena Police Lt. Andrea Perez reported that the incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. in the 1900 block of Lincoln Avenue. Police responded to the scene after receiving reports of a fire at the location.
Perez said officers arrived and found the victim with multiple burns. A fire department spokesman said the man suffered second- and third-degree burns. The victim was not a school district employee.
The victim said he was hired to pressure-wash the campus and was installing equipment. Perez reported that he opened a gas tank in his trailer and it exploded and caught fire.
Perez said several witnesses rushed to help the injured man before emergency responders arrived. The victim was treated at the scene and then transported to a local hospital for further treatment. His condition is unknown at this time. According to Perez, no other injuries were reported in the incident.
